Triber of the week – Esther Oyenekan

Hi, can we meet you?

My name is Esther Oyenekan, and I’m an aspiring data analyst. I live in Lagos, Nigeria.

It is nice to have you, Esther. Can you tell us one quote that inspires you?

I love Winston Churchill’s quote, ‘Success is not final, failure is not fatal. It is the courage to continue that counts.’

That quote completely resonates with me. Would you mind sharing how you motivate yourself?

I motivate myself by telling myself that I need to be consistent if I want to get things done.

Yeah, consistency is key. Can you share your career/ data journey with us? We would like to know about it.

I studied computer science in high school and dreamed of becoming a database administrator. In April 2021, I officially started my career as a Data Analyst. I signed up for the Dataleum beginners class and taught myself by watching YouTube tutorials. In November 2021, I completed the Google data analysis certification and started working on personal projects.

It’s interesting to know that you’ve always loved data. So what inspired you to learn SQL?

SQL is a very important language for all data professionals, so I had to learn it.

You are right. Can you tell us about any 3 people who inspire you in any industry and why?

• Ivy Barley: I love what she does for the African tech community, especially the women.
• David Abu: He is always there to help people on social media when they have issues with their projects.
• Myself: I inspire myself a lot for how far I have come, and I’m proud of myself

That is amazing. What is your favorite movie or tv show of all time?

My favorite movie of all time is Me Before You.

That was a classic. What do you do for fun?

I sleep (lol).

Interesting! What is that one thing you are looking forward to achieving soon?

I want to get my DataCamp Data Analyst Certification and land my first Data role.
